Tasting Notes:
Fruit:
The fruit is sourced from our small Merlot vineyard in the Geographe Region of Western Australia. This vineyard is established on Tuart sandy loam soils and receives cooling breezes from the Indian Ocean. The 2003 vintage was characterised by a cold winter with ample rainfall that was followed by a mild spring and warm summer. The grape bunches on the vines were thinned to restrict the yield at harvest to produce a wine which has a clean acid finish with intense flavours and rounded tannins.

Oak Maturation:
Twelve months in new and used French oak barrels to allow the natural expression of the fruit in the wine.

Colour:
Superb red/purple tones, bright and vibrant, medium bodied wine.

Bouquet:
Soft and scented with varietal aroma, clean and well balanced on the nose. Removal of the cork reveals an intense aroma which develops further by airing or decanting prior to serving.

Palate:
Approachable and vibrant bright flavours, with a rounded palate, clean and crisp throughout with a fresh acid finish. The oak is well integrated into the wine.

Cellaring Potential:
Up to seven years from vintage.

Overall:
A wine true to the varietal characteristic of Merlot and the Geographe region.
The wine benefits from decanting.

Matching Cuisine:
This Merlot will match strongly flavoured fish dishes, pasta, white and light red meat dishes.
